two-way radio battery life levelsTwo-way radio battery life deteriorates over time due to the wearing down of its cathode. The average lithium battery can recharge about 1000 times before losing its maximum charge capacity.

Unfortunately, even if you don’t surpass this charge threshold, the battery will still deteriorate over time. Fortunately, we have compiled a list of ways to get the longest life possible out of your batteries.

10 tips to get the most out of your two-way radio battery life:

  1. Be sure to store your batteries in a cool environment, ideally at room temperature. Heat causes batteries to discharge quicker than cold batteries, therefore wearing them down faster.
  2. Keep an eye on your charging time; do not over-charge. This can prove detrimental to battery life and will not provide any increased charge capacity.
  3. When you are not in a situation that requires communication, turn down the power output.
  4. two-way radio battery lfieReduce the volume – less volume means less energy is being used.
  5. Accessorise! Instead of using the two way radio loudspeaker, communicate via an earpiece.
  6. The type of radio can affect the battery life. Typically, digital radios are far more efficient than analogue radios – an upgrade might be in order!
  7. Shorter conversations use less battery, so keep it brief and to the point. Additionally, the battery tends to heat up during longer conversations.
  8. Buy more than one set of batteries for your two-way radio and keep them in rotation, rather than constantly using the same set.
  9. Do not allow the battery to completely die – put the device on charge as soon as the low battery warning light appears.
  10. Be sure to turn off the display and any unnecessary applications when not using the device.

Following the 10 simple tips above will allow you to significantly lengthen your two-way radio battery life.

Finally, always remember to carry a spare battery; better safe than sorry!
